Teaching

  • Piano • Music Theory

Whether you want to learn to play your favorite pop song or that a dive deep into Jazz and the art of improvisation, my ability to tune into your specific way of learning will help lead you to the traction you are looking for. Learning the language of music and how to communicate your ideas to fellow musician in a live or studio setting is key. Getting you closer to relative perfect pitch along with a basic understanding or chords and harmonic processions, will help to create an effective and productive work flow.

  • Song Writing

Identifying what this craft is and understating the importance of the various hooks needed to create an asset that can be monetized is truly and art form. Some people are born with this talent as pure expression of themselves and others just need to have this process broken down. In a market where 40,000 new songs are uploaded to platforms like Spotify, it’s important to understand how crucial “following your one melody in life” is.

  • Music Production

For me, it’s all about honoring the artist. Music production has become a process and skill set that is easily enjoyed by many who purchase a computer with Garage Band already installed. Understanding what your role is as “The Producer” and honoring the artist and their intention, is a whole different skill set. The timeless producers of the world never get in the way of the artist’s vision and art, they are there to support and organize in the collaborative process. Learning about this process can only help bring out your best productions helping you carve out your unique brand as an effective producer in todays music.

  • Record and Mix Engineering

So many times the way things are recorded and mixed become additional hooks to a successful song. Learning the basics of recording live instruments is key, but exploring techniques that allow your individual creativity to add value and traction to a project are just as important. With the tools that are available to the process of writing, recording, and releasing music, so many ideas can be flushed out in a very short time. Taking a simple piano part and making it sound like something totally different is key to creating music that is new sounding and unique to your vision.

  • Film Scoring • Composition

Film composing has become somewhat of a diluted market with so many library companies taking over the sync world. That being said composers that follow a unique approach to their vision in creating a score are still valuable to the studios and their productions. A basic understanding of creating a score is key but also understanding when to collaborate with libraries and when to go after specific roles as the main composer are crucial in creating a more sustainable career in Film and TV composition.

  • Music Business and Social Media

THE GAME HAS CHANGED. Never a truer statement has been spoken these days. You can literally Discover, Develop, Document, and Distribute talent independently with huge and sustainable results. I call this the 4 D’s of todays music business ecosystem. Labels have their place and can be a great partner in a joint venture situation but you are not dependent on them like an artist was 20, 30, 40 years ago. Social media and technologies are so much a part of the success and non success of artists and assets in general that understanding this very important piece is a must. Simple branding practices and again, using your creativity in how you push your content out is key.
